slange

Something is wrong.

My garden looks good.

Better than it ever has.

I'd like to think years of hard work have finally paid off, but more likely it's because it's May. The deer and the weeds haven't yet organized their coalition attack.

We'll be away for two weeks; who knows what we'll return to. Nipped peony buds, munched elderflowers,

fading foliage where the spring ephemerals once danced.

For now I say slange and raise a glass of elderberry wine (2010), feeling pretty proud of myself and my garden.

Not to mention the elderberry wine. An extra year in the bottle has made it sing.

  1. It sure does look good, Ellen, and the photos are beautiful too. Those are some cute paws at the end.

  2. Beautiful!!!

After a month away, my garden looks like a neglected jungle...time to get to work :)

  3. I love the look on Seven's face, so fierce! And I'm willing to bet it's a combination of the May Magic and the years of work... the passage of time is the hardest secret ingredient to mix into a garden, because it involves waiting (between all the hard work).

I am feeling pretty gaga about my own garden (which is good, because there's a daunting amount of work to be done nownownow - this year more than ever).

The wine looks as lovely as the garden. You deserve all that delight!
