Down & Dirty
What's a little dirt between friends?

We've been working on our bedroom and the end is in sight.
Stripping the wallpaper was oh so tedious. Pulling up the carpet somewhat less so. Installing the wood floor was a piece of cake (for me, because Michael and Ed did it).
Yesterday, while Michael mitre-cut the floor mouldings, I put up the first curtain.
I'd had the idea for months and couldn't wait to see if it would look as good as I imagined. I collected the branches before the snow fell, cut them to fit the windows, then washed them down with a bleach solution. I also searched out the perfect curtain rod holders, which turned out to be invisible.
The fabric came from Michael's mom, who always had a great eye for color and texture. When she found it for her living room she bought the whole bolt and gave the rest to us. Thanks Ruth!
I guess it's more of a window treatment than a curtain, since it doesn't actually cover the window. That's the beauty of being out here, no neighbors to look in the windows and plenty of natural light. Who needs curtains?

Look what my friend gave me!
We don't put up a Christmas tree. Not that we have anything against Christmas trees, but we don't have kids and we're never here for the actual day so it seems like a lot of trouble for nothing.
Imagine my delight when O.E. (aka Other Ellen, aka Wreath Goddess, aka Ellen Spector Platt, aka my partner @ Garden Bytes) asked me if I'd like a wreath. Yes, I said, yes, yes, yes!
She brought it to my apartment, I brought it to my house, and look how pretty! I feel suddenly very festive and oh so in the holiday mood.
Thank you, Ellen!
