I'm back!

I've been all over the country in the last few weeks: Chicago, Philadelphia, Storrs, CT, Charlotte, NC, and it hasn't been quite as much fun as I thought it would be. Too many hotel rooms, too many airport security lines, too much restaurant food. I admit, it got me down.

But this weekend I saw the light at the end of the tunnel. I worked at the NYBG's orchid show on Saturday and Sunday, and yes, it was gorgeous and colorful and over the top, but what really set my heart pounding was the scene outside the conservatory. Because I see promise in the greening grass and the bare but budding branches.

That being said, it wouldn't be fair to leave you without a few images from inside the show, so here, in no special order, are some beauties from the family Orchidaceae:

a seductive Vanda

arches of mounted, epiphtyic orchids...a gateway to paradise

mixed Miltoniopsis

an orchid pagoda (don't try this at home)

The show runs through the beginning of April and is definitely worth a trip to the Bronx!

I did get to see the show and it was stunning. But like you, I'm even more heartened by the signs of spring in the outdoor landscape! Welcome back.

Welcome back! Hard to believe such a lowlier drama could be more thrilling than orchids... but it was divine spending these last couple of blustery days outdoors. Just in from moving an awful lot of potting medium, and feeling a new and better kind of tired. Woohoo, and happy spring!

Welcome back, Ellen. I'll be leaving for Philadelphia in a couple of weeks to check out the landscape architecture grad program at the University of Pennsylvania. I've never been to the East coast before so it should be an interesting experience.

Did you like Philadelphia?

Hi Ellen -
How do I get an arch of orchids in my yard? Hmmm . . .
Are you still speaking at Epcot this weekend? I'll be there Saturday and will try to say hi! (I'm very excited!)
